STREATART

Streatham Festival has supported artists from within the local community for the last 20 years.  Originally set up to promote all aspects of the creative community, the Festival has become a great showcase and platform for local artists and has helped them to form links with the many venues, shops, restaurants and bars in the area.

Hundreds of artists have featured on the website pages of the Festival, within printed magazines such as Heart Streatham and through the doors of the Streatham businesses and it is hoped that we can deliver another great platform for this year’s Festival. At this stage, it is difficult to know how artwork will be exhibited in October (online or physically seen) but we are hoping to be able to fill these pages and showcase the immense talent that exists in our neighbourhood.

Last year artists exhibited in St Leonards Church, the Woodfield Pavillion, the Chalkpit and various venues up and down Streatham High Road. There was also a fantastic joint exhibition held with Streatham Library, open throughout the Festival that allowed each artist to exhibit one piece of work.

The Festival also instigated the Blue Hoarding Project.  This was a fantastic local community incentive that launched a children’s art project in the local schools.  There continues to be artwork painted onto the massive Blue Hoarding boards opposite Baldry Gardens, with a children’s art gallery down the side road.

This year with the Lockdown, we are sure that many people have discovered their artistic and creative side and we hope that the Festival will continue to be a great place to showcase the wonderful art in Streatham.
