Gene Pool and The Shallows @ The Leigham Well
12 October @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Music Genre : Surf Instrumental
“Gene Pool and The Shallows” are Rory Replicant, Tom U Tation, and twins, Charlie and Clarry Chromosome. Having escaped from a Silesian baby factory, they made their way via budget airlines and TfL to south London, where they have been hiding in plain sight ever since.
Their lead singer, Gene Pool, did not make it. There is no tragic, yet heroic, story to the plight of Gene Pool. He never existed. A figment of a twisted mind, the band decided to keep alive his non-existence by retaining his name. Or is this just another excuse for his frequent non-appearances?
Without a lead singer the band play twangy guitar instrumentals with roots based in the 60s surf scene, brought to attention once more in the 90s via the soundtrack to “Pulp Fiction”.
The lack of vocals makes this genre truly international in nature; the band have recently appeared on a compilation CD with bands from 12 other nations. So, expect high energy, reverb-drenched tunes and plenty to dance to. Surfs up!
