Chess. Check it out!
16 October @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pmFree
Beginner, Improver, Returner or budding Master, watch or play chess with Streatham and Brixton Chess Club, Saturday 16 October at our stall at the Rookery Farmers Market at the top of Streatham Common.
Everyone is playing it, now more than ever. The oldest game on the planet. Chess!
It is challenging, it is absorbing and it is fun. Once you’ve learnt the basic moves the possibilities on the 64 squares are endless. Young and old, girls and boys, can pit their wits and buff-up their brain cells in the game’s mix of sharp tactics and deep strategy.
Streatham and Brixton Chess Club has a proud history of chess in our community. Established in 1871 it is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. We’d love to share our passion for the game with you. So, we’d like to invite you to come along and play a bit (if you know the moves already), or just watch us at it if you’d prefer. We will be at the Rookery Farmers Market 10.00am to 3.00pm on Saturday 16th October.
We’ll have a drop-in/drop-out continuous simultaneous exhibition for all-comers, as well as a giant chess set for you to play around with. You could be a beginner who has just learnt the moves, an ‘improver’ keen to develop your skills, a ‘returner’ dusting off the moves after a break. You might even be a wannabe World Champion!
If you get hooked (if you are not already) you may want to come and join us at our regular local sessions (which we hope to restart soon now COVID restrictions are coming to an end). You can also find out about us at https://streathamchess.org/; or you could email us at SFChess@btinternet.com and we’ll keep you posted about our activities.
So here’s your chance to try chess! We hope you will check it out!
