Blue Hoarding project

Sponsored by Access Storage, City Plumbing, Harmonix & Leyland

The Streatham Festival Committee is keen to create a fantastic artistic mural working co-creatively with local schools and artists. This year, the organisers have the opportunity to paint a large mural on a hoarding on the corners of Penistone Road and Kempshott Road in Streatham, opposite Baldry Gardens. Our intention is to brighten up these street corners and welcome all who pass along Europe’s longest high street to visit our vibrant neighbourhood.

We are grateful to Access Storage and Precis Management Services Limited for enabling Streatham Festival to create this project as well as other supporters including City Plumbing, Harmonix & Leyland.

Progress to date:

A new outlook

Construction activity is well underway at the Blue Hoarding site, with cranes and huge machinery now features on the skyline. Closer to ground-level the scenery is also going to change within just a couple of weeks.

Working together

We are working with Art4Space and Art Clubbers in this exiting collaboration. The two teams will each deliver part of the design. The overall design will present the work of local school pupils in a big, colourful panoramic view – especially from Baldry Gardens.

A series of artworks will now begin to emerge, via workshops with volunteers, and a large painted mural will gradually reveal itself over the coming days. You can keep up-to-date with the latest news and pictures here.

The Streatham Schools’ Art Exhibition on Sat 12 October, 2-5pm at Streatham & Clapham High School features the school pupils’ original drawings and paintings – our inspiration and starting point for the Project. We hope to see many of our young artists, their teachers, families and friends there.

Massive Thanks

Project Sponsors, Harmonix and Leyland have generously sponsored and supplied all the paint, materials and equipment we need, and the team at City Plumbing are supplying manpower (and tea and biscuits!).
